As a wedding photographer I notice how much planning has gone into the big day, but how relatively little thought has gone into the photography. We’ll leave that to the photographer, seems to be the thinking. That’s fine up to a point, but actually shouldn’t you be giving it a bit more consideration? After all, we are talking about documenting the biggest day of your lives.
So here are some great articles I’ve come across recently that address just that – how you can get the best from your wedding photographer, and make sure you get the shots you really want.
In this first great article, the main focus is actually on the wedding photographer, primarily offering advice for them. But it offers some useful insights into understanding the style of photography yot, and how important it is to get a wedding photographer who is diplomatic, understanding, responsive and polite! Never mind the wonderful creativity, artistry and spontaneity you’re looking for – people skills are equally as important! See the article, from Cosmopolitan here: 12 Things I Wish I Knew before I became a Wedding Photographer.
Secondly, one of the conversations I often need to have with the couple before the day, is practising posing. No-one likes overly posed shots, but equally, via a careful bit of standing, hand placement, correct posture etc, what could just have been an ordinary shot can be turned into one to savour for ever. This article gives some great tips on how to stand on your big day, to make sure you get the images you will treasure – see the article as it appears in my Wedding Photographer UK Flipboard magazine.
The third article looks at what styles are really in for weddings in 2015. As a wedding photographer I notice that some weddings are full of new ideas and innovative touches – the things that the guests really remember, and mark your wedding apart from the all the others. Wedding decor trends of 2015 highlights some of the new trends you can incorporate in your wedding plans.
Brides! Tips on how to look wonderful in those photographs. Not dissimilar to the article on how to pose above, but thinking more widely – some great tips on Looking Your Best for the Camera.
And finally, again one for the brides. You really need to think through the style you want – not just how you want your wedding photographer to capture the day, but generally what style you want for the entire day, and the type of experience you want your families and close friends to have. Lots of tips here to express yourself and your individuality in this great article on What’s your Wedding Style? Think this through before you make your first contact with any wedding photographer – the earlier you can get this decided, the better *everything* will be. See What’s your Wedding Style.
